Dr. Thomas E. Lovell Interim Pastor

Pastor.jpg

A native of North Carolina (Go Tarheels!), Dr. Lovell is a  graduate of Appalachian State University, and Union Theological Seminary in Virginia from which he received a Doctor of Ministry degree in 1983.  Over the course of the past four decades, Dr. Lovell has served Presbyterian congregations in Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama.  While Tom retired from full-time ministry in 2021, God had other plans as in January 2022, he answered the call to serve as the Executive Presbyter of North Alabama Presbytery, where he served until moving to Fredericksburg in December of 2024.  Most recently, Tom served as the “Bridge Interim” of Summit Presbyterian Church in Stafford, VA. Tom’s wife, Krista, is a graduate of the Presbyterian School of Christian Education as well as a Certified Christian Educator in the Presbyterian Church USA.  The Lovell’s have three adult children and seven precious grandsons.

Dr. Lovell is very much a “people person” who loves interacting with the diversity of people and personalities who are a part of the community of God’s people.  When asked to share what he enjoys most about his calling to be a pastor, he wrote:  “The greatest joy I experience in my calling as a pastor is that I am invited to be a part of the most significant events in the lives of those whom I serve.  I am humbled and honored to be invited to share in the joy of such important life events as births and baptisms, weddings and anniversaries, as well as to be present in those difficult moments of life when death looms large or difficulties come.  I cannot think of anything more gratifying or fulfilling than to be asked to minister to and be present with the members of my church family during these most important events in their lives and to seek to bear witness to the love and grace of Jesus Christ.”  Tom looks forward to providing leadership to the congregation of Culpeper Presbyterian Church as it moves through this time of pastoral transition and prepares for the next chapter of its storied ministry in Christ’s name
