Announcements for Sunday, March 29th

Carl and Cindi Gray are happy to announce their new granddaughter, Mallory Michele Colella, daughter of Jeff and Lory Colella, born into our church family March 18th.  Congratulations to the Gray and Colella family.

As you were made aware yesterday, we want to remind you that someone in our church building has been exposed to CoVid19, though they currently have no symptoms. Under medical advice, the following steps are being taken:

  • We will not be streaming our worship service on Sunday. Pastor Chris will email his sermon to the congregation.

  • Our office will be closed through next Thursday, April 2. Please DO NOT enter either of our buildings for any reason.

  • Pastor Chris and the office staff will be available by phone and email. Because our church email address cannot be monitored remotely, please send emails to our staff through their individual email addresses, not the church email address. For emergencies only, messages can be left on the business manager's extension.

Please continue to check your email for communications from Chris and the church office. Though we may be physically isolated from one another for a brief time, we will stay connected by our love for each other as a church family.

To adhere to state guidelines of no large gatherings, we  will continue to hold no services or meetings until further notice.  The church office will continue to communicate through email, Facebook, and the website, so please be diligent as we continue to care for one another.

You may learn of folks you know beginning to struggle financially, due to lost hours on the job or some other reason. While we wait on the government for a more comprehensive solution to the economic hit caused by CoVid19, know that CPC, and its discretionary fund, is ready and willing to provide some short-term relief to you or your "neighbors" (to use Jesus' word). Note - our discretionary fund is finite, so we'd like to limit our help to those within the church family, or those with whom you have a relationship (coworker, friend, and the like). Contact the church office or Pastor Chris with your needs/requests.

The church picnic planned for May 3, has been cancelled due to all Culpeper County parks closing through May 9.

We would normally be collecting our Hunger Offering this Sunday.  As you know 75% of that collection goes to our Minister’s Discretionary Fund.  With  CoVid19 creating job loss, the church office is beginning to see a rise in calls requesting assistance.  We thought it appropriate to loosen the restrictions through this time of need.  We will purchase $50 gift cards with any contributions designated to the Hunger Offering for the next two weeks.  These cards can be used for groceries, gas, medicines, or any other need.  Hunger Offering donations can be mailed to the church or slipped through the mail slot in the office door.

Remember those old fashion “chain letters” that if you didn’t pass it on you would have bad luck?  Well our Presbytery Women are bringing a version of that back.  They have created an email chain called Chain of Love. An email is sent to the Women’s Circle, designating a member that includes a Bible verse and a word of encouragement.  Watch for the newsletter coming out next week, to read about the success they are having and the wonderful inspiration they are providing to one another.

In continued support of the Safe Shelter of Culpeper our item of the month for April is coffee or tea.

By now, you have received the letter announcing Karen and Linda’s upcoming retirement.  The Personnel Committee again expresses their gratitude for the many years of dedication to the church.  As mentioned, the committee has decided to combine these two positions.  If you have an interest in this position please provide your resume to Barb Jenkins, or email to bjenkinscpc@comcast.net.

In light of all of the Coronavirus mandates, our drama team has made the decision to cancel this year’s presentation of “The Other Carpenter”.  We are disappointed but believe this to be a prudent decision.  We would like to share a scripture from one of the participants after learning the decision was made.

“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”    Deuteronomy 31:6

- Be intentional to spend some time each day, as you can, caring for each other; use the phone and email, or other technology, to check in with each other. Though we are separated, we are not alone.
